People on social media platforms have recently shared unverified information stating Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to close its restaurants and seek bankruptcy protection in 2025. These claims remain baseless rumors.

Unión Rayo published a short Madrid-based news piece which started the confusion. The article contained one statement which revealed Farmesa Fresh had shut down because it was a failed experiment from Chipotle. Newsweek reported that Farmesa Fresh ended its short existence because it failed to last beyond its initial launch. A single report about Farmesa Fresh spread into false information that circulated from Thursday to Friday as people falsely stated that Chipotle was facing problems throughout its entire chain. The original story contained a promotional image with the Chipotle logo which probably deceived readers about the content of the story. Frustrated Chipotle fans took to X to express their disappointment about restaurant closures that never occurred.
Chipotle’s representative Erin Wolford appeared on Saturday to dispel all misinformation. According to her statement Chipotle faced false information because an online article incorrectly linked the company to its brief 2023 testing venture. The restaurant chain prepares to expand its operations instead of shutting down any locations. The company plans to launch between 315 to 345 new restaurants this year while Wolford mentioned that 80 percent of them will include the chain’s digital drive-thru service called Chipotlane.
The organization’s financial statements demonstrate its positive outlook. Chipotle revealed its $11.3 billion total revenue from 2024 during its February 4 earnings call which showed a 14.6% increase from last year. The company holds more than $2 billion in cash reserves while maintaining no debt on its books. CEO Scott Boatwright declared in a news release that Chipotle achieved outstanding results for the year. The company’s growth trajectory demands my complete focus on developing guest and team member solutions.
Chipotle Mexican Grill maintains more than 3,700 locations across March 2025 without any indication of restaurant closures or financial problems. The company expanded its operations in 2024 through 304 new company-owned locations including 257 with Chipotlane services and three internationally licensed restaurants. Honey Chicken became the newest addition to their menu to maintain menu variety. Chipotle proves false the rumors by expanding its business successfully through its burrito sales in the fourth quarter.
